Classroom Tool

Classroom Tool I Can't Live Without:  There are certain tools in my classroom that I just can't live without!  These mini bent nose pliers are one of those tools.  Have you ever struggled to get a staple - or worse yet - a half staple out of the wall.  Staples can become so maddening.  Well, stop the madness!  Keep mini bent nose pliers in your classroom.  They pull stubborn staples out just like that.  I often hang items outside my classroom.  Pulling the staples from the wood siding can be a bear!  But, with my mini bent nose pliers ... no more headaches for me!  You can get a pair on Amazon for around $6.00!  LINK

Cinquain Poetry:  I love teaching poetry throughout the year in my classroom.  It helps students to feel successful as writers - especially when they have a first draft frame to work off of.  Enjoy these easy to use cinquain frames. I made an autumn, winter, spring and summer version.  I love launching the lesson by having the class brainstorm as a class what they think of when they hear autumn.  I record the student responses on a big class chart.  The students use the chart as a launching off point when writing their seasonal cinquain poem.

I included a generic version to fit any theme or topic in your classroom. There is also a set of simple cinquain examples. You will be able to download first and second draft forms.  You can download this FREE Cinquain Poetry Pack at my TPT Store: LINK

Enjoy!

Homonym Task Card Game:  I love launching new concepts by getting students thinking.  This homonym task card game does just that.  I created the homonym matching task card game with a word, sentence frame and two images for students to match (see below). It allows students to understand that homonyms are words that are spelled the same, sound the same, but have different meanings. Homonym literally means homo=same and nym=name  I include a challenge activity that allows students to use pictures and words to draw their understanding of homonyms.

I also made two covers and two direction sheets of different sizes. You can mount, laminate and store the game in a small or large manila envelope.

Enjoy!

Check it out on my TPT store:  LINK
OR email me and I will send you the game FREE!

Antonym Matching Game

Antonym Task Card Matching Game:  I love creating mini-centers for my students. This antonym matching game is a perfect center. It can be played individually,  in small groups or whole class. Run the antonym cards and answers back to back.  I made the font color of the answers light gray so you can run them on normal white paper and not see the answers through the paper.  You can also run them on cardstock.

To Play:  Students spread out the cards on the floor or table.  They then match the antonym cards (cats to dogs). The answers are on the back so students can self-check.

The game is also differentiated. There are 3 colors of fonts: red, blue and yellow. Students can start out by matching just one set of antonym colors (8 total) and work their way up to matching all 24 antonyms. I have also included a mini challenge quiz to check student understanding.

I mount the title page on the front of a manila envelope and the directions on the back. I then cut and laminate the synonym word square cards and the manila envelope. It makes for neat, easy storage of the game.  I have two sizes of covers and directions so you can choose a large or small manila envelope to store the game.

Synonym Matching Game

Synonym Task Card Matching Game:  I love creating mini-centers for my students. This synonym matching game is a perfect center. It can be played in pairs, small groups or whole class. Run the synonym cards and answers back to back.  I made the font color of the answers light gray so you could run them on normal white paper and not see the answers through the paper.  You could also run them on cardstock.

To Play:  Students spread out the cards on the floor or table.  They then match the synonym cards (paint can to paint splatter). The answers are on the back so students can self-check.

The game is also differentiated. There are 3 colors of paint cans - red, blue and yellow. Students can start out by matching just one set of synonym colors (8 total) and work their way up to matching all 24 synonyms. I have also included a mini challenge quiz to check student understanding.

I mount the title page on the front of a manila envelope and the directions on the back. I then cut and laminate the synonym word square cards and the manila envelope. It makes for neat, easy storage of the game.

Apple Taste Test - Johnny Appleseed Day

Apple Day - Taste Test - Johnny Appleseed Day: Nothing says FALL like Johnny Appleseed. I love having an Apple Day in my classroom around September 26th - Johnny Appleseed Day! I have created a letter home asking for supplies and apples, an apple taste test chart, an apple taste test graph, 2 note taking options for taking notes on Johnny Appleseed and a writing paper.   All are available at my TPT store:  LINK We make applesauce in class along with enjoying hot apple cider. We have an apple taste test and read and learn about Johnny Appleseed. I have given some links to resources that I love using. One is from www.readinga-z.com and the other is www.jr.brainpop.com. Reading A-Z has a Level O story book on Johnny Appleseed.  Brainpop Jr. has a great Johnny Appleseed video that is normally FREE during the month of September.  I have my students take notes on Johnny Appleseed while watching the video or reading the story book.  Once we are done with our taste test and applesauce making, I have the students write an informational writing about Johnny Appleseed using their notes.  Add some apple artwork and you have a super cute bulletin board!
